Press Release for Sheffield Youth Climate Strike on 15/03/2019
For IMMEDIATE RELEASE 13/03/2019
Sheffield Student Strikes on Friday 15th March
• At 11AM on Friday 15th March, Sheffield students will be gathering outside
Sheffield Town Hall to demonstrate against the destruction of their future.
• Sheffield's school and university students will join pupils around the world in
calling on governments to act in the biggest youth climate strike yet.
With over 200 species going extinct each day it is CLEAR that our planet is in a
state of absolute emergency.
'Adults keep saying we owe it to the young people to give them hope, but I don't
want your hope. I want you to act as if the house is on fire, because it is.'
In the words of Greta Thunberg (16-year-old climate activist and founder of the
#fridays4future campaign), it seems there is no choice left but for the kids of today
to take action, begging governments to slam down the breaks on climate change,
fossil fuel emissions and plastic pollution. Thousands of students worldwide plan to
walk out of school on March 15th to join protests in over 80 countries, gaining
publicity for the right to have a foreseeable future. The youth climate strike
movement enables young people to find a voice in the chaos and fight
(non-violently, of course) for their generation. We need to panic.
